˅ When is the deadline?

We are accepting applications until Friday June 30, 2017.

˅ Who is eligible?

• Must be a resident of Great Lakes Bay Region

• Must be enrolled in public, private, home school or GED classes

• Must demonstrate outstanding community service or impact

• No older than 19 years of age

• No minimum GPA requirement

• Grades K-12 are eligible, but students will not receive money until after graduation. At that point, the $2,000 prize will be dispersed to the student’s chosen college, university or trade school. Should the student decide to enlist in the armed forces, we will hold the money until they have passed basic training and then disperse it to them. Contact us for more information on this at GBScholarship@GarberBuick.com.

˅ Do I need to have a specific major or GPA?

No, community involvement is for everyone, and we encourage all students to show us how they shine by making their community a better place for everyone.

˅ How many scholarships are awarded and what is the value of each prize?

We are awarding ten (10) scholarships of $2,000 each. Four (4) to the high school grades (9-12), three (3) in middle school grades (6-8), and three (3) in elementary grades (K-5). Our goal is to have no more than one winner from each grade level, except in the high school where winners can be from any grade.

˅ Is there an Official Step-by-Step Guide?

Yes! Applying is as easy as 1-2-3! Find it here.

˅ How do I apply to the Drive Your Community Scholarship Program?

Make sure you’ve completed all the steps on our Guide and then apply here!

˅ What does an example video look like?

˅ Does my community service need to be affiliated with a school or a club?

Nope. Any community service is encouraged to be submitted, even if it’s unaffiliated with a school project or an organized group. If you make an impact on your community, we want to know about it.

˅ What is the best way to create my video?

We recommend using your cell phone. Yes, seriously. That way, you’re able to shoot, edit, and upload to YouTube all on the same device. However, feel free to use whatever recording device you would like, just be sure that the file you produce is accepted by YouTube. Here is a reference of supported file types.

˅ What happens to the prizes of younger students?

For students who are not graduating seniors, we will hold that money with the Saginaw Community Foundation until the student is ready for college, university, military, or trade school. The money will stay in an account Garber has with the Community Foundation and set aside, ready for use when the student enrolls, either full-time or part-time, to any college, university, military school, or trade school within a two-year time limit after graduation.

˅ If I win once, am I out of the running indefinitely?

No, you’ll be eligible again after a three-year grace period. So if you win as a high school freshman, you would be eligible again as a senior.

˅ Does Garber do anything with the videos after the contest?

Garber is dedicated to your privacy, and we do not sell your information or your likeness. The video you upload to your YouTube account belongs to you, and after the contest, you can take it down as you please. We will ask winners to email us a copy of their videos so we may host a playlist of videos on our YouTube channel to show off your hard work. We might use winners’ videos as example videos in promotion of next year’s scholarship. If you have further questions about what we collect and what we do with it, please check out our Privacy Policy and Official Rules.

˅ Can I use the scholarship to go to any college?

Yes! We will award the $2,000 prize to any college, university, military school, or trade school. If you decide to go into the armed forces, we’ll disperse the money to you after you graduate from basic training. There is a time limit of 2 years after high school graduation in which you must reach out to us to let us know which educational facility you’d like your money dispersed to.

˅ What does the scholarship pay for?

Just about anything. The scholarship can be used towards the cost of tuition, fees, books, supplies, required equipment, room and board and other allowable expenses. See the full Official Rules for more information.

˅ Can I submit a paper application?

No, at this time we are only accepting digital applications.

˅ How are winners selected?

We have selected a third-party panel of judges from the Saginaw Community Foundation that will be reviewing the videos and deciding who is the winner for each category. Employees of the Garber Organization have no impact on who is chosen as a winner.

˅ How will I know if I’ve been selected to receive a scholarship?

We will reach out by phone and email to inform the winning students. Please be sure to check your devices frequently in July to see if you’ve won!

˅ Who provides the funds for the Drive Your Community Scholarship Program?

Garber Automotive Group is an organization that is dedicated to helping the community grow. It is so important to us and our President Richard J. Garber that we are footing the bill entirely. We are honored to do so.

˅ What if I don’t have access to the resources?

You can still apply, and we will help you! Whether you need a device to record with, an online connection to submit your application or assistance in any way, please let us know, and we’ll help you out! You can email us at GBScholarship@GarberBuick.com, and we’ll make arrangements together.
